The Basic Elements of Garden Landscaping Design

Designing a garden seems to be easy. However, when the garden is finished, some gardeners become disappointed with the result. The final product is messy and not appealing to the eye.

That is why it is important to study the basic elements of garden landscaping design and apply them during the making of the garden. By familiarizing the five elements of landscape design, a gardener can put up a garden that is both visually appealing and organized.

The first element of garden landscaping design is form. Form is defined as the shape of something. A tree for example, may have a form involving upright branches like pines. Or it may have a droopy form like that of a mulberry tree. The position of plants with careful consideration on their form gives the garden a unified feel.

The second element of garden landscaping design is line. Line refers to the fact that a person's eye movement is unconsciously guided by the garden's borders, the arrangement and outline of plants and other structures. This is quite useful when the gardener wants to emphasize a certain point in his garden. The line of plants can subtly guide the eye movement to that area.

The third element of garden landscaping design is texture. Texture refers to how the surface of the plant is distinguished and seen, relative to the plants and other objects around it. The viewer usually perceives the texture of the plants by judging the size and shape of its leaves.

The fourth element is proportion. It is the requirement that the size of the plants and structures in the garden should fit into the whole landscape harmoniously. An out of proportion garden disrupts the landscape since the height and size of the plants and objects do not offer a good transition. Good transition refers to the gradual change in size or height of the object.

The final element of garden landscaping design is color theory. Color theory is the relationship of one color to the other. Expert gardeners use color theory to provide unity or contrast in their gardens.

Color theory can also set the atmosphere of the garden. For example, using flowers with warm colors such as red and yellow excites the viewer and gives off a feeling of liveliness. On the other hand, using flowers with cool colors such as blue or green, invokes a feeling of relaxation and serenity.

Landscaping involves changing the visible aspects of your garden. This involves to an extent gardening and horticulture but it also means other aspects of design and installing tiles and pagodas and other elements to basically make your garden as pleasant to look at and to exist in as possible. If you get really good landscaping for your garden then it will enable you to create a space outdoors that is far easier to maintain than it might otherwise be, and that has a very peaceful and attractive vibe. The garden is a perfect place to relax and to feel the fresh air and the sun on your face, while getting away from the stuffy space indoors where we work and live - but if it is all over grown and muddy then this can make it hard to fully appreciate and relax.

A great garden then means you can get more from your garden on your own. It also means you can make more of your garden as a space to entertain guests and visitors and you can stand out on the patio with drinks or even eat at the table outside to provide a perfect atmosphere. All this requires a great garden design though and what your visitors make of your garden and your home will be greatly affected by this.
The question then is whether you should landscape yourself or whether you should use a landscape architect. Of course by landscaping yourself you can save money but is this going to sacrifice the quality of your garden too much too?

The answer is likely yes, and while you might enjoy landscaping yourself, you will likely not have all of the skills and knowledge that a professional service has. You might well find that you try and grow the wrong plants near each other so that they stifle each other and fight for light and water, or that you plant the plants in the wrong soil - many people aren't even aware that it matters what plants you plant in which soil.

Landscape architects will likewise know about stamped concrete, granite, marble and any other garden patio or garden art you want. They will know how to install it and will be able to do so themselves or contract it out making it much cheaper, and will be able to place it down flatter with fewer gaps so your garden is easier to maintain and so it looks better year round. Likewise they will have more experience about what looks good where and can help you make the right decision about the garden.

You of course still get autonomy and you still get the final say on what your landscaping looks like. Thus your garden will still be your perfect garden and you will still get that sense of pride when you sit outside and enjoy it, or show it to guests. At the same time though it will look better and more professional and will be easier to look after, and as though that wasn't all enough you will find that your property goes up in value more as a result too.

One of the more exciting jobs when you have a new home is the landscaping. For more information on Garden Landscaping Design Sydney please go here http://www.thelabyrinthgarden.com.au/.

The art of landscaping has been adored and recognized, not only for the residential areas but for the commercial areas as well. There are lots of ideas that can be applied for landscaping jobs, but it takes a skillful and imaginative landscaping artist to create such an art for each type of residential and commercial location. The purpose of landscaping is actually to blend colors, shapes, and objects to the natural beauty and wonders of nature.

Residential landscape may focus on modifying the appearance of the lot area. Landscaping designs can be done on the front area of your house, the backyard, the pool area, the patio, or the pavements. It may also focus on the cultivation of plants or the modification of the shape of the land or terrain. The main objective is to create beautiful scenery while promoting conservation of nature and its proper sustenance.

On the other hand, the commercial landscaping designs are focused on creating different artistic presentation, whether it is for small-scale businesses or large-scale ones. The artistic designs of landscaping used for such commercial areas are very important and significant for companies and organizations, because the exterior appearance of their office buildings will be the basis for their clients and customers' first impression regarding the business.

Landscaping designs can be very beautiful in terms of decorations and house appearance, but aside from that, it can also improve the environmental and ecological balance of nature as the plants and trees used in landscaping can help keep and increase the green house effect in resolving the issues of global warming.

Plants and trees are the perfect natural sources for ecological balance. And since plants and trees are used as one of the materials in landscaping, the art of landscaping should also consider the necessary steps in conserving and preserving the sustainability of nature.

In addition to that, there are also lots of landscaping designs and tips that would enhance the beauty of the garden. The plants can be decorated with artificial materials like fences, stones, rocks, pebbles, woods, and other similar materials to create gravel pathway, artistic patios, pavements, driveways, and yard decorations. The area could also be added with swings, hammocks, fountains, bird cages, and many more, as long as it does not harm the nature and the people or animals around.

Landscaping designs can be a good way to improve the appearance of the area, residential or commercial. A well-maintained landscape reflects the value of the residents and the building owners. More than that, a beautifully landscaped land or terrain promotes environmental improvements and less-polluted surroundings.

Landscape Garden Designs Eastern Suburbs

The Labyrinth Garden is a company dedicated to making the design and construction of your landscape a vibrant and exciting process.

The company has been around for over 10 years and we use our unique skills and experience to approach each job whether it is big or small.

The Labyrinth Garden works with many of Sydney’s top interior designers and pride themselves on unifying the interior with the exterior making your garden an extension of your home.
Many of us desire a garden that is unique and something we can be proud of. There is great enjoyment in having a beautifully landscaped garden to spend time in.

It is common to spend money on an interior decorator in order to get their experience and advice, when designing the look and feel of a home interior. It makes sense then that we also use the services of a Landscaper to turn our garden into the private haven that we desire.

We all like to consider ourselves able and imaginative when it comes to designing, but we are often unaware of many of the possibilities when we chose to design our own garden. Designing a beautifully landscaped garden takes a lot of planning, as well as professional eyes and hands to create something more than just planting pretty flowers.

A Landscaper has understanding and experience that can ultimately save dollars as well as time since most folks nowadays are time poor and aren't ready to fully dedicate themselves to completing the project.

A professionally trained Landscaper can create a truly inspired landscape design specific to your needs and budget. The impact of a great landscape plays a pivotal role in the overall way your garden is experienced, utilised and enjoyed.

A landscape designer will help you achieve the proper balance between the different elements of garden design such as Hardscape and Softscape. Hardscaping covers brick or masonry work, and Softscaping covers live plantings and other organic materials used in landscaping. The knowledge of how to balance these different components comes from professional training and years of experience.

The diversity and flexibility of how plants, trees, grasses and other organic elements are combined with Hardscape elements allows landscape designers to achieve a virtually unlimited number of potential designs.

Finding the optimal balance between landscaping elements is where the true challenge lies. The end result will be dependent upon artistic vision and creativity combined with an educated awareness of the materials being used. It is very difficult for novices to expect to get the same result as trained professionals.

Ultimately a well thought out and executed garden landscape design can provide a great deal of personal satisfaction, and also add significant value to your home.
